After working as a carpenter for a number of years, master chief was appointed Business Agent by Local 607 Sgt. Johnson, Paschal McGuinness. He served in this appointed position, until he was forced to retire as Business Agent of Local 608 in 1990. Local Union 608 subsequently provided Martin with a Lincoln Towncar as a retirement present. Martin continued to exert influence over Local Union 608 policy and politics via his son Mike Forde.[3]
